Underground coal mining can be a very dangerous business. Every year, even today, 100’s of people die in underground coal mining accidents or as a consequence of exposure to coal dust.
However, many countries have demonstrated that by applying rigorous safety standards it is possible to dramatically reduce the risks associated with working in an underground mine.

Conflow plays a significant part in this through providing a product range specifically developed in conjunction with coal mining engineers to use water to address the major underground health and safety issues such as frictional ignition, dust suppression and fire control.
Each Conflow product is designed specifically for use underground - the product is made to physically withstand the harsh environment and to control fluid at high internal pressures. Conflow’s products use the mine’s water supply to maintain safe situations underground. Here are just a few examples;
Fire protection
A network of Conflow fire hydrants to make fire fighting available throughout the mine.
Fire is prevented from spreading along the miles of roadway by strategically placed Conflow Fire Barriers which provide a curtain of water to act as a barricade to the fire.
Machine safety systems
Conflow components are utilized in OEM’s equipment to protect men and machinery from unsafe situations. For example, the Conflow Pre-Start Warning Device prevents coal cutting machines from operating until sufficient time has elapsed for personnel to vacate the danger area in front of the cutting drum.
Dust suppression
Coal dust is carcinogenic and also causes miners' lung, so suppression of coal dust in an underground mine is critical. The Conflow code 100 spray control valve and sprays are fitted for belt line dust suppression.
